State education

Parents currently have complete freedom of choice of schools, including the right to cross local authority boundaries, with the following exceptions/restrictions:

• Grammar schools select by ability
• Denominational schools admit by faith, but exceptions may be made
• A popular school may be full and cannot admit beyond its capacity
